Germany, an original chromatic game

For the German pavilion, MVB Bagattini products were chosen by Frigerio Ceramiche, which won the tender announced by Nüssli Deutschland to create the flooring and coverings of the pavilion. The particularly tight installation times – the work began in early March – were one of the main reasons that led to the search for a flooring that could be laid mechanically, as well as a supplier that could guarantee punctual deliveries and flexibility, in order to best respond to construction site needs.

“We have been working with MVB for 25 years,” says Bruno Frigerio, owner of Frigerio Ceramiche, “and I thought of turning to them because I am familiar with both the quality of their products and production cycle and their organization, which would allow us to guarantee the expected results on time.”

The following were selected for the exterior surface: RETTANGOLO, a solid tile measuring 21×42 cm and 7 cm thick, with a hammered finish in four different colors, and MATTONE, which measures 12×24 cm by 8 cm thick, with a hammered finish in the anthracite shade. The particular shades, which have allowed to create an interesting play of color in the external areas of the pavilion, are a distinctive feature of MVB flooring, and are created with an original mix design containing selected fine aggregates.

In the internal area were laid the 40×40 cm Slabs, 4 cm thick, with a hammered finish and gray color, with floating installation: also in this case the installation system made it possible to obtain an excellent result in a short time.

Simplicity and elegance for the USA pavilion

The ability to provide a comprehensive sampling of materials very quickly was the motivation for the choice made by Vanoncini for the United States pavilion.

“The designer James Biber asked us to propose a series of solutions in line with the aesthetics he had in mind for the flooring of the exhibition pavilion – explains the engineer Stefano Rigo, construction site technician from Vanoncini – Together with MVB we have identified four flooring, in different colours, to be installed according to the planned scheme”.

The solution identified involved the use of slabs measuring 50×50 cm and 25×50 cm in shades of grey. The final effect is refined and simple, thanks also to the harmonious alternation between the paved surfaces and wood’s ones.

“Natural stone” effect for Angola

For the Angola pavilion, the external flooring supplied by MVB to Nessi & Majocchi was made with large format slabs, 100×50 cm, with a natural effect finish that recalled the paving stones of classic Portuguese streets. The aim of the designer Paula Nascimento was in fact to evoke the colonial past of the African country, which was a Portuguese colony until 1975.

“For us, the Angolan Pavilion is one of the numerous collaborations started with MVB – explains the geom. Marco Nessi, head of the Purchasing Office of Nessi & Majocchi – with whom we have been working for over thirty years and whose punctuality and competence, as well as the quality of products, we appreciate.”

Flooring by MVB for three pavilions for EXPO 2015

The floors of three pavilions of Expo 2015 in Milan are designed by MVB Bagattini: Germany, United States and Angola. A notable presence born from consolidated relationships with the Lombard companies that took part in the works for the realization of the Expo.
